Accused Stalker Questioned: 'But Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a recorded message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned phone records and information retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most publicized missing child cases and remains unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The jury was informed that via electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, told the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted close associates of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the appearance to the village, that area, in last December.
The court learned communications between the two defendants, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their house, the defendant sent a text which stated: "We're currently sitting outside the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling investigators. I wanted to achieve this with someone else I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
