Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official stated the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
