Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
