Los Angeles Battles Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only Days Following Major Winter Weather.
In the wake of heavy downpours that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, LA is now seeing abnormally warm weather for this time of year.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, per data from the National Weather Service. This exceeds the prior high for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was set in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on forecast charts for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service cautioned that Friday's weather posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their recommendations featured:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Sharp Shift
This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a powerful storm system that struck the area last week. That event delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents.
Unfortunately, the conditions also resulted in a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Forecast Ahead
Looking ahead cooler conditions will arrive. Temperatures were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by Friday night.
Several cities that experienced 90°F featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Additionally, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to experience the high eighties.
For the weekend, central LA can anticipate weather in the eighties, with a further cooldown on tap for the start of March.
